The New Bicentennial Unity Plaza at Gainbridge Fieldhouse!
Poynter’s architectural metal team excels in large-scale metal fabrication and installation, collaborating with artists, architects, and designers to craft unique pieces that enhance spaces. The newly unveiled Bicentennial Unity Plaza features a full-sized basketball court along with two striking structures—a sphere and an arch. These were fabricated by Eventscape from Toronto, Canada, and installed by Poynter. The arch stretches an impressive 120 feet and comprises 450 individual pieces, while the sphere consists of 350 panels. Each piece boasts distinctive shapes akin to a puzzle. Due to their substantial weight, cranes were employed for installation. Although some panels arrived damaged, our specialized shop team swiftly repaired and polished them to ensure that the installation crew remained on schedule.
The plaza is a beautiful look for the city, with pieces of Indianapolis history placed throughout. The sculptures represent the city’s desire “to be a civil, unified and informed place.” Come explore this vibrant space that not only showcases incredible artistry but also tells the story of our community’s commitment to harmony and knowledge.
